Living in the big ol'gaudy rhinestone of the crappy belt buckle of the Bible Belt, and having a skeptical but open mind, it is hard to deal with narrow minded individuals. I have friends and family that are straight up God fearin, bible thumpin, gun totin, registered Republican, uninformed folks that can easily excuse the antics of the current occupant of the White House while condemning similar actions from others in that position.

Just what hijackedhippie said. The only time I confront them is if they make racist remarks as they need to know that's not ok. Nothing I say will change their minds about religion or politics but it is important that they know, at least in front of me, they don't get a pass on ignorant, racist comments.
I agree, and there is a range of reasons why folks go there. I have a couple of friends that just like to pull my chain, so I give back in kind. Others are simply naive and apathetic, and others are true believers. My mom is old school yet hopefully open minded. i like to think that my dad, who was reliably republican, would see through the freak show and see the con job behind it. He couldn't stand liars, so....
