What's wrong with the aprons?

They had a rainbow heart on them, which a few Christian fanatics took to mean support for gay rights.

It sounds like they threatened litigation. If they worked at a union store, they wouldn't be terminated. I shouldn't say this, but the smart thing to do is to fire "troublemakers" for cause down the road. Everybody breaks the rules eventually.
