Be mindful of cultural differences.....
In one particular thread there's been some backlash about a clunkily worded question that didn't come across so well.
I just want to point out that outside of the Western World, things are done differently, seen differently.
Not to mention, people from these places are often engaging the written English language as their second or even third language.
Simple things, like levels of education and how they are DESCRIBED can come across as if someone is lying.
These are all minor issues that can be easily explained and corrected if we all take the time to realise that this might be the case.
The atheist/agnostic community is small enough as it is; please try hard not to frighten away foreign 'brothers and sisters' (to steal from the christians).
For those who are from foreign, English-as-a-second-language countries, please understand that people might not realise you are from a different culture.
Try not to get mad at them; that will only make it worse.
Now let's all get along, ok? (Although, if someone starts singing Kumbaya, I will ironically and hypocritically hunt you down)!
We all go through โCultural Shockโ when visiting another country [a period of social/psychological adjustment -similar to the body adjusting to a change in time zones]
This is also experienced as we travel around on the internet. And we often feel uneasy in our adjustment period. Just do not take it personally.
