Courtesy of "Traditional and Folkmusic": you won't be in good company if the farmer's wife is still there -
As a teenager I first came across the song when it had these words, from the time of the Stuart monarchs:-
Say brother Teague hast heard the decree?
Ireland shall have a new deputy.
Ho by the Tyburn is the Talbote
And he shall cut the Englishman's throat.
There was an old prophesy found in a bog
Ireland shall be ruled by an ass and a dog.
Now is the prophesy come to pass
For Talbote's the dog and James is the ass.
I found it most amusing, because Lillibulero was the signature tune played on the radio before the news on the World Service of the BBC.
