I just wondered. Pagans don’t have a totally lonely time because most Christian holidays were stolen from pagan celebrations. I mean the Winter Solstice (celebration of birth of the baby Son God) is around December 21. Pagans decorated and gave gifts, feasted, etc. I give everyone gifts and say “Happy Yule” as I hand it .
Take time off from work, eat too much, watch a lot of movies, see family... The usual.
I do whatever the fuck I want My kids love Xmas.
Xmas is not at all lonely. In the US at least it is as much a cultural celebration as religious. I don't do much to celebrate it, but did when my children were young.
I meditate under the night sky, if possible, on Dec 21st and this Solstice will have the added feel of two planets converging into one light on the date. I do enjoy many of the light decorations so plan to cruise around to see them on Dec 25th. That's about all.
WInter solstice is separate and has nothing to do with this religious xmas shit imo. I boycott the stores during this time and don't partake in any of it other than the sales that come after the fact. No matter how you spin this time of year, its wrapped around some stupid religion and most people don't look or see this as a pagan celebration.
Really do nothing. Eat well, excercise, watch movies, never ever buy gifts but spend money for no reason and do some sins. In other words, just hang out with me.
It is not enough to be atheist any more. It is important to be anti-religion if you want to make a difference in this world.
think of it this way...if it was not for the business companies wanting to sell any old shit to your children on a certain day and hope you are gullible enough to pay extortionate money to make your children happy for a certain stupid day then christmas day works...no business selling shit ...then no christmas...
Solstice is the founding for all of the fun stuff the Christians hijacked.
And the sun has been "standing" at its earliest sunset for several days now. That is 5:18pm EST in my spot on earth. It will go to 5:19pm in a day or two.
Dec 21 is the shortest day, but the latest sunset is not until sometime in January so it balances out.
As i work in retail have a huge sigh of relief as by the time of the holiday i am usually ready to kill. I live alone so large cooked breakfast then coffee open presents face time with my daughter trade insults with her same with my gf then a walk to the pub a couple of pints home cook a meal and phone family up then spend the evening drinking beer and reading.
Well, although I'm agnostic, if I had my family nearby I would spend the day with them. As it's scattered around the world, most likely I'll spend it at home, alone, in peace and quiet.
