Oh, but some jackass Mid-west Republican congressman has been waxing euphoric about how he, himself, prevented the country from having socialized medicine!
We are exceptional...exceptionally stupid.

The report correctly analyzes the causes. From the Guardian :

The report not only assesses health policy, but also includes lengthy sections on immigration, Puerto Rico, reproductive rights, racism and the environment. Dr Adam Gaffney, a commission member and Harvard Medical School assistant professor, said: “To only focus on medical care would neglect the many other inequities and injustices that produce health and sickness.”

. . . similar from Slate :

I won’t comment on the report until I’ve read it.

The stats I’ve been seeing for years say health care in the US is more expensive and less effective than in other industrialized nations.

I'v seen the same thing.
