I enjoy a good prank, a clever prank, a prank that took some thought.
I am not impressed by "pranks" that involve toilet paper, eggs, and/or risk of injury. That's not clever or funny. .
Yeah yeah, that's the ticket. Carry on.
Easy. April 1st (April Fools' Day) is the regular season start for a lot of Major League Baseball teams -- so it's important -- we must leave it alone no matter what other baggage it has. /snark

While I was reading your link I noticed a link to about how Google skipped April Fools' Day in 2020.
Looking, It turns out they're skipping in 2021 too -- another COVID-19 casualty. I guess.
