What I disliked the most was when patrons referred to this strenuous job as "good exercise" or "a great pension". My retort was " But one has to live to collect". Close to retirement? The screws came out. Adding a burden to the route & persecuting if the addition was not absorbed. Play the game & do EVERYTHING in a legal/safe manner. Every possible rule followed to the tee. Then wait for the opportunity to bail. Most of those that could not/would not do the job scaled up to be the lacky lickers of management. One manager who was in line for head of district was caught selling stolen merchandise out of the postal building with his trio of henchMEN. The cooperative corruption is legendary. If not for the UNION there would surely be a firing squad for us rebels.
Mail carriers even save lives sometimes, or at least find the body!
