Dennett is brilliant and funny, but clearly he is speaking off the cuff and his admission of respect for what Richard Rorty said plus his little anecdote about Foucault's conversation with Searle suggest his interest in the ideas behind the baroque texts of post modernism.

Derrida, or someone else was also asked why they wrote such dense texts. He answered similar to Foucault but he also intimated that the thoughts that a philosopher sweats out over the course of a lifetime of work and study ought not to be simply absorbed as eating canapes.

Postmodernism is alive and well, there is no totalizing meta narrative.
