Building on Kreig’s earlier question about our view of the American National Anthem, as non-religious folks...

What is it with the National Anthem and sports? When you go to a musical, you don’t have to sing the National Anthem. When you go to a ballet, or a play, or a museum, or your kid’s Maths competition, or her science fair, or a spelling bee...etc, there is no demand for compliance of this sort. What’s the deal?

National sports bring in a hole lot of money, and if they make a fiasco about it, they earn more money. Also, i read somewhere that the reason people play sports is because of excess leisure time and it was a way for men to practice war tactics.

Not sure why it works that way here. Some countries are different. In Thailand, the national anthem is played even before movies at movie theaters. Here in the United States it seems to be inconsistent.

That is a very good question. Indeed, the national anthem wasn't even sung at NFL games until quite recently. If I remember correctly, it was begun after September 11.
