Now, the latest reversal indicates that a lighthearted summer akin to years past or a salvageable 2021 may be slipping away.
"It makes you want to smack people upside the head," Elise Power, 66, of Orange County, California, said.
"They're so utterly selfish," Power, a retired banking manager who got vaccinated in March, said. "They're relying on everyone else to do what they should be doing."
This month, public health officials in Los Angeles County reinstated the indoor mask mandate in response to the quickening spread of the delta variant.
"Now that they're telling us to mask up again, you're taking away the reward for being vaccinated," Power added.
Yes, unvaccinated Americans are messing it up for the rest of us and certainly deserve our scorn. The reward for being vaccinated is not getting severe COVID and death.
There are people I’d like to smack up side the head for this too. I have a colleague who said she is not vaccinated, isn’t going to be vaccinated, and has a doctors note that she doesn’t have to wear a mask. She’s not going to be getting into any of our facilities like that. Sorry
And it's not like masks are worn to directly protect oneself. Masks reduce spreading disease to others -- much less so reduce receiving disease from others.
They're forcing vaccinated/masked people to rely on sketchy herd behavior for what protection can be had.
People working to protect themselves and their families are forced to hope they can survive long enough that the virus' ascendancy fades on its own -- outside their control.
'Selfish' is very much the right word for people who thwart that effort -- and scorn is deserved.
I am amazed at the number of people who have no idea how medicine works. Nothing is 100% effective and nothing will be. Just because one is vaccinated does not make you immune for everything. Apparently people do not have the smarts to read anything.
