The real duplicity was on the part of the corrupt Afghan regime which had no courage, honor or Afghan support.

In light of "On July 3, 1979, unknown to the American people and Congress, Carter authorized a $500 million “covert action” program to overthrow Afghanistan’s first secular, progressive government. This was code-named by the CIA Operation Cyclone." designed to overthrow the "1978, liberation movement led by the People’s Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA) overthrew the dictatorship of Mohammad Dawd, the cousin of King Zahir Shah. It was an immensely popular revolution" which resulted in free medical system, hugely increased literacy through schools & universities inclusive of women can only be called corrupt by duplicitous Americans diverting attention away from the mayhem that they have created.

@FrayedBear That Afghan "gfovernment: was not prlogreswsive, but a Soviet Russia backed communi9st one.

@wordywalt so for that reason (communism) they cannot be progressive? Don't make me laugh Walt. The USA has the most degenerate non progressive government of any. Much of it due to cognitive dissonance on communism vs socialism.

@FrayedBear The progressive movement in American history has an over a century long record in American history. It has always been a rmovement focused on reforms to serve people and make their living conditions better. It has been a movement focused on liberating people.

On the other hand, communism is a total system ideology seeking to control people and force them into following a single ideology. Itr has always been repressive, not progressive. Oh, I know that it has always cliamed to liberate the people and put them into control, but it has never followed through on that promise and never will. Whyat it does is form a dictatorshipo by an elite of ideological pursits that has never and will never relinqyish control volunttarily. If you had ever studied communism closely to try to understand its idelogy and operation, as I have, you would know that.

@wordywalt I suggest Walt that you look at what has happened in Afghanistan thanks to American paranoia over communism. A popular government that had the support of Rissia did something that the USA has never been able to achieve - free healthcare & education for women & men, democracy. US meddling in order to achieve downfall of that democratic government ended up with Russian invasion to protect its interests. Withdrawal of Russia was not good enough for USA because its prior action had resulted in the rule of warlords not amenable to US colonialism. The CIA therefore supported the rise of the Taliban which then led to the big lie of the 19 year Afghan war, the American rape of Afghan wealth & growth of the Afghan heroin industry. I read that the Taliban are asking for help to destroy the CIA instigated industry.
I suggest that you throw away your blinkers mate.
