A poem I wrote in class during a surprise Math quizz, many moons ago....
Math
I have a mental blank
I cannot work
I know not what I’m doing
I’m a mathematical jerk.
I can see my marks going
Up in smoke
For me to pass math
Is a bit of a joke.
I can’t do a thing
Not one little equation
And when my teacher finds out
My head will be one big abrasion.
Why can’t we revert
Back to stuff I can do
And things that I know
Like one and one makes two?
Because I wouldn’t have a clue
About differentiation
Or the trapezoidal rule
Or even integration.
It’s a foreign language to me
I just can’t seem to find
The answers to the sums
In my mathematically devoid mind.
But I think that I
COULD pass this course;
I just need to constantly
Study of course!
I reckon I could do it
And I think I could get through
But there’s so many other classes
And so much study to do
That I can’t seem to find
Much time for this subject
So I guess I’ll remain
A mathematical reject.
Kreig 1994
Hmmm. I had a maths teacher like that. He was a member of the Wesley family and an ordained minister. Besides his atrocious halitosis that shriveled the most hirsute students budding beard, his favourite habit was to grasp a boy by the hair on his crown and repeatedly beat the boy's head against the front edge of his desk. By now he should be in his own purgatory.
Awesome...I rapped it out loud..it was quite epic
Say it isn't true, Kreig,
Say it isn't true.
Math just isn't that hard
For a man like you.
Give it your best shot, Kreig,
That's what you should do.
Give it all you've got, man,
And after you're done, Kreig,
We'll down a pint or two.
Fun little piece there, my friend. Brought up some interesting mental images.
Did the teacher give you partial credit for it?
Oh… math.. To me, the closest thing to a ‘God’ on this planet are the Theoretical Mathematicians and Quantum Mechanics … those using 3 blackboards to work out an equation leading us to another level of understanding both ‘space & time.’ They are the rock stars of humanity! I’d cheer them on, even clean their houses ... because the math required to get to where they go is forever beyond me … so you’re not alone ~
