Fusion energy will happen one day, but I doubt I will ever see it. Certainly not as a widespread technology.

Given that the US National Ignition Facility has failed to make real progress for 20-some years, best wishes to Australia. It's money well spent, sort of, but they don't appear to be able to produce a commercial design for multiple decades (if ever). Tokamaks look much more promising, though commercial design is at least a decade away.
