Typical "evil" Republican.
It's STILL hard to believe this anti-progressive earthquake of an upheaval is happening, bought and paid for by the corporate greed machines.
From the yawning fissures have lept a horde of ravenous hellhounds from the deep, Abbott being only one.
What happened?
How are they are getting away with it?
To begin with, the alarm was never sounded by a complacent, fat, and lazy Democratic Party, which had been in uncontested power for so long they were fast asleep, even as the
"vast right-wing conspiracy," (as Hillary Clinton so aptly put it) was hatched sometime in the early 1970s.
Alarmed by the progressive wave sweeping through post-Vietnam society, the corporate powers-that-be launched their counterrevolution, methodically installing a network of:
conservative think tanks,
foundations like Heritage,
well-funded "academics,"
societies such as the Federalist,
AND, for popular consumption, first and foremost, seemingly innocuous
AM talk radio.
Oh, it started innocently enough, with rolly-polly clown Rush Limbaugh, then metastasized over time into an aggressive, virulent cancer flooding every station, and with it every cell of the body politic.
Today the utter filth these hate jockeys pour into the minds of their gullible listeners on a daily basis, in the name of God and Country, is beyond criminal slander, a loathsome libel with no acquaintanceship with reality as we once defined the word.
All because an actor playing the role of his lifetime,
President of the United States, the
Trojan Horse himself,
Ronald Reagan,
who ushered into the halls of power all manner of Koch Brother proxy.
We barely knew these people even existed, who were upon us
before we even knew what was happening.
While we watched in horror, they were about the business of an undreamed-of hostile takeover of the regulatory apparatus of the New Deal, that gargantuan bureaucracy we took for granted.
Where once these interlopers influenced the system, they now, more and more with each passing day, WERE the system.
The single most important performance, however, of this come-to-life Wizard of Oz, this corporate puppet disguised as the amiable Gipper himself, good 'ol Ronnie Reagan, was to cancel a popular, long-playing hit, the until then unappreciated government policy, called the:
Fairness Doctrine.
And with it went the
First Amendment,
Our constitutionally-guaranteed
Right to Free Speech
which, for some insane reason, the Democratic Party allowed to expire..
Then, when the scope of this disaster became clear, these "Safeguarders of the People" inexplicably failed to reverse this right-wing propaganda monopoly.
Then, a fait accompli, it was too late.
Todays resultant wreckage: the looming
destruction of U.S. democracy itself, now well underway, and
the establishment of an authoritarian one-party state, guided by a witch's coven of:
corporate marauders, and a
regressive, reactionary vanguard of Christian Soldiers, at the gates, to deliver the
Shining City on the Hill,
from us sinners.
"God" help us all.
