My mom hurled words. My dad used leather. I eventually tossed them.

After WW2, historians and others asked why Germans—a cultured people—had obeyed Hitler so completely. They, and my ancestors, had had centuries of autocracy. The severe damage done during WW2 appears to have changed German behavior.

Wooden spoon and Hickory switch - yep. Although our "Hickory" switches were from a Birtch tree. As an adult, when I was planting trees, I never entertained the thought of growing any Birtch.
