I think dogs can, too. Requires no intelligence, just repetition.

I used to have a Chinese Shar Pei who totally freaked out every time I said the name 'Maria". That was the name of a friend of mine who was tall and morbidly obese. On top of that, she had a very loud, high-pitched voice. The dog was terrified of her! She didn't see her very often, either. It just took seeing her a couple of times before the name elicited that reaction.

Dogs can do that quite well, and it has been known some time. But many can do even more. This NDT video is real fun.
