LINK Supreme Court makes it more difficult for prisoners to argue they had ineffective counsel - CNNPolitics

Say goodbye to the 6th Amendment. 😔😤

This is disgusting. The fact that this, by and large, effects the most marginalized people in America, those who are afforded Public Offenders, should tell every American just exactly how monstrous the 6 rightwing Justice are. 🤬

Public Defend Offices are grossly underfunded, leading to ineffectance of counsel. Now there's no reprieve for those persons, who have been Constitutionally guaranteed legal counsel, to have competent counsel during their initial talks and NO reprieve in the Appelate Courts.

This also has far reaching ramifications for bringing DNA or other "new evidence" during the appeals process. All of the wrongfully convicted in America now have little to no recourse.

Why am I not surprised that Clarence Thomas wrote the opinion?

From the link

Thomas suggested that allowing such claims to go forward would cause unnecessary delays, and he said that federal courts "must afford unwavering respect to the centrality of the trial of a criminal case in state court."

"Serial relitigation of final convictions undermines the finality that is essential to both the retributive and deterrent functions of criminal law," he wrote. In his decision, Thomas emphasized the brutality of the crimes.
