I thought this was an interesting nugget of information. The highest point on earth? Sort of depends upon how you define it.

Mount Everest is called the world’s highest mountain because it has the “highest elevation above sea level.” We could also say that it has the “highest altitude.” The peak of Mount Everest is 8,850 meters (29,035 feet) above sea level. No other mountain on Earth has a higher altitude.

Keeping this in consideration, which is the highest place on Earth?

Mount Chimborazo, in the Andes, is a 20,000-plus-foot peak sitting on top of a bulge on the Earth. Mount Everest is a 29,000-plus-foot peak sitting lower down on that same bulge. Because Chimborazo is a bump on a bigger part of the bulge, it is higher. According to Senne, Chimborazo is 1.5 miles higher than Everest!

Where is the farthest point from the center of the Earth?

The peak of Chimborazo is the farthest point from the center of the Earth. This is due to the Earth bulging out at the equator and Chimborazo being located just one degree south of the equator. Mount Everest is 28° north of the equator. Thus Chimborazo is 2.1 kilometres farther from the Earth’s center than Everest.

Furthest bit of the earth from its center, that we know of, could be the Voyager space craft.

Add Mauna Loa in Hawaii, as from its base on the seafloor it rises some 33000 feet.

Tallest mountain.
