My first wifes name was Susan. I called her Candy, because to me she was so sweet, to me. My first 2 years in the Navy we lived on an island off the coast of Charleston. After a year in Vietnam, I called her for a hallway pay-phone at the San Diego burn center and she said she never wanted to see me again, she had another guy.. I was crushed. This song always reminds me of her.

I guess I can see your emotional connection to this song, but he actually wrote it about a female friend that committed suicide. Still, a loss is a loss...
