In addition DeSantis has deliberately attempted to undermine the quality and independence of public education by three types of wo action. First, he is attempting to completely undermine academic freedom, one of he underpinnings of our democracy by dictating what curriculum can be adopted in the classroom and what teachers can say in the classroom and by bring bias in to the selection of textbooks and other teaching materials. Second, when school administrators and s school boards, acting in the best interest of the children, parents and communities they serve , disagree substantively with DeSantis’s attempted dictates, he tries to punish the people and agencies involved by taking money away, or threatening to remove people from office. Finally, he is attempting to bring his culture wars and MAGA politics into school board operation and decision-making by making school board elections partisan. That has not been the case since the Jim Crow era.

DeSantis’s dictatorial actions are not limited to school boards. On more than a few occasions a public official, school board, county commission, or city council has taken ab action , which in their opinion is in he best interests of the people they serve, but different from the demagoguery of DeSantis,. In almost all such cases, DeSantis has reserved the legal and sincere actions of those agencies and officials, threatened punitive action, a bd/or removed the official from office. DeSantis obviously does not believe the old American democratic adage: “Government closest to the people governs best.”

In short, DeSantis has shown and continues to show dangerous dictatorial tendencies. We wants to dumb down our public schools by starving them of funds, limiting academic freedom, and limiting the curriculum to that which fits his extreme ideology. He accuses teachers, liberals, and “woke” people of trying to indoctrinate us and our children, but does not tell you that the greatest indication of indoctrination is intentional government action to limits what people and students can read, discuss, and learn to “approved “topics. We wants to politized all public decision-making bodies to make them agencies of ideology, not public service agencies. Given a chance, he will seek control of all public functions, including those of other branches of government. He is a clear and present danger who must be stopped HERE AND NOW!!
