Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.Dogmas like "original sin" make more sense than ever if fear is the whole point. Actually, the whole idea of an immortal soul makes more sense when fear is the point, since an immortal soul in Hell can be tormented forever instead of just until death. Neither the soul or Hell figured prominently in the Old testament, those two selfish memes were imports from other thinkers of the ancient world, Plato and Augustine among them.
