World's largest democracy is doomed as is the oldest continuing democracy. We think of USA as a young country, but no existing democracy has remained this long. Very sad.

Switzerland, Iceland.
@Fernapple Iceland constitutional democracy is from the WWII era 20th century 1944. Switzerland is a pure direct democracy with the governmental system dating back to 1848. Both have democratic roots dating back as far as the middle ages. The American colonies had some form of democracy dating back to 1630. USA became independent 1776 and had it's 1st presidential election in 1788. It's not incorrect to call USA the oldest continuing democracy in the world. Whatabout notwithstanding.
