To my surprise, I found a United Arab Emirates coin in snowmelt.

Last week, walking to the mailbox, I picked up litter/trash as always. A large pile of snow from the snowplow was melting.

In the snowmelt, I found a coin from United Arab Emirates! Cleaned it up. Polished it with silver polish.

Two questions:

  1. How did it get here in Wenatchee, Washington?

  2. Why is English printed on one side?

Love the elegant, long-necked coffee pot. I guess that's what it is.

Your thoughts?

p.s. The fabric background is old, cut-up pajama pants. I use soft rags to polish shoes and brass bottoms of pans.

Dirham is the currency of the UAE and smaller coins are called fils. It would be nice to see a photo of the coin. My guess is that someone who has visited the UAE or a visitor from the UAE dropped the coin. Nearly every citizen of the UAE speaks English.

1 Dirham coin. Symbol: Dallah Coffee Pot
50 fils coin. Symbol: Oil Derricks
25 fils coin. Symbol: A gazelle
5 Dirham note. Symbol: Blue Soak in Sharjah
10 Dirham note. Symbol: Omani Dagger
10 Dirham note. Symbol: Palm Tree
AED 20 Dirham note. Symbol: Dhow boats
50 Dirham note. Symbol: Arabian Oryx

@ASTRALMAX

Thank you! I uploaded the photos again.

Why did Agnostic.com delete photos of a coin? It's not pornographic.

@LiterateHiker Poor site maintenance gives rise to issues with the site

@LiterateHiker I'm still seeing both photos.

It's a little hard to read the numbers, but it appears to be a one dirham coin (slightly more than a quarter), vintage 2005. The second number is the date on the Islamic calendar. The image is actually of a coffee pot, not an olive oil vase. I have one like it in my living room, and I also have piles of different UAE coins because I lived there for a while. The country's name is in English because there was a real effort there to join the international economy. How that coin made it to your place would be an interesting story to learn, I'm sure!
