I remember reading a paper back in 2015 about Medical Examiners at a conference that came down with a mystery illness.
Legionnaires was suspected but it was proven to be a cold (corona type) virus. This was 2015 and in America. Transcripts should still be available in the BMJ, Pubmed Lancet and other medical journals.

As said in Battlestar Galactica it has happened before and will happen again. The SARS-CoV-2 virus was likely zoonotic and killed a lot of folks before it began its normalization into a pesky common cold coronavirus. There was also a bad pandemic in the late 1800s (1889-90) that could have been caused by a coronavirus:

I strongly doubt this OC43 coronavirus had been created in a lab as people are speculating with SARS-CoV-2. It’s one of several that have emerged naturally. As SARS-CoV-2 runs its course it will join their ranks as just another HCoV. People are apt to attribute nefarious human causes where none exist. As Hanlon’s razor holds “Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity”. Not a lab bioweapon but a wet market exposure.
