Growth is shedding your fantasies, so that anything which makes growth harder, and it is hard to start with, is going to be bad.

But nearly all of human culture, is, and has been for a long time, about keeping people immature. Since mature people are not needy, they do not want or need any toys. So that we have always had, much of the worlds economy, and several whole industries, for a long time, which are purely devoted to keeping people as children and selling them toys. The advertising industry is obviously in that business, but so too are most of religion, the media and much of politics. This is nothing new, just an improvement in methodology.
