LINK Stephen King Calls Out Fox News Host—'This Is Weird' - Newsweek

Stephen King has taken aim at Fox News, calling host Jesse Watters' comments about men who plan to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris in November's general election "weird."

During the Fox News roundtable The Five on Wednesday, Watters suggested that men who vote for the presumptive Democratic candidate have "mommy issues" or want to transition into women.

"To be a man and vote for a woman, just because she's a woman, is either childish, that person has mommy issues or they're just trying to be accepted by other women," the 46-year-old said.

"And I heard the scientists say the other day that when a man votes for a woman, he actually transitions into a woman."

"This is weird," the horror author told his more than 7 million followers.

Newsweek has reached out to a representative for Stephen King for comment via email.

In an email, a representative for Fox News told Newsweek: "Anyone who watched the full segment can obviously tell that he was joking which was also made clear later in the discussion."

At the time of publishing, King's reaction has received more than 750,000 views.

The 76-year-old's post sparked a mixed reaction online. Some people agreed with The Shining writer, with one X user calling Fox News "Complete morons."

"People, if Stephen King thinks this is weird .... THIS is Weird," said Jean Gkasscoe Haynes.

"I voted for a woman more than once—what happens then?" joked @mortenlund8.

"The misogyny is laughable at this point," wrote @beepboopb0nk.

"Hard to believe that this is the same network that had to pay $787.5 million dollars for lying," wrote @Abraxsys, referencing the settlement with Dominion Voting Systems in April 2023.

The software company sued Fox News for reputation damage, accusing the network for making false claims that Dominion's voting machines changed votes for Donald Trump to Joe Biden in the 2020 election. The case was settled out of court.

Other users hit out at King for the post, with one user saying "[it] takes one to know one."

"Stephen, you're literally the weirdest person on this app," commented @iAnonPatriot.

Chris Zero agreed, writing: "Stephen King calling someone else 'weird.' Now I've heard it all."

"Democrats can't recognize a joke," said @randywtwf.

"Missing satire and ignoring context is awesome," wrote @questioillustro.

"Bro wrote a couple good books and thinks he's a politician," said @real_razi.

This isn't the first time that King has criticized Fox News. In March, the Carrie author criticized The Five after a host referred to Joe Biden as "Old Yeller" and mocked the president's recent verbal gaffes.

"The Five on Fox News is calling Biden Old Yeller. Right nickname, wrong candidate. Trump is the one who thinks he's running against Obama," he posted to X at the time.

King initially endorsed Biden for the 2024 election. Since the 81-year-old stepped down on July 21 following calls from fellow Democrats concerned about his age, King has thrown his support behind Harris.
