Why do we not hear more of the argument that restricting abortion results in some souls going to Hell? If I'd been aborted, I'd be in Heaven right now. If abortion is so bad, how come God does it so often -- to over 50% of all human souls EVER CREATED? The unborn soul gets a free ride to Heaven -- sort of like an athletic scholarship (pardon the slur on jocks) -- the unlucky born must run the gauntlet of Life and risk Hell. Does the unborn soul care who kills it -- God or a human abortionist?
Abortion is a theological issue. Confront it on theological grounds. That's one reason it's such a hot button: look at it closely, and it leads you inexorably to the absurdity of religion (but then, so does everything else). [The other reason it's a hot button is the deliberate fomenting of the issue by the likes of Paul Weyrich for mostly opportunistic cynical political manipulation.]

We should make it more widely appreciated that the spontaneous abortion rate is so high -- mostly at a very early stage, before the mother is aware. God creates many of us more equal than others. Add in the very high mortality among children (remember that current survival rates are a very recent anomaly), and if the soul begins at conception, the vast. vast majority of souls never reach the alleged age of reason (7 y.o., I was taught by the Catholic Church) and never risk Hell.

The other horn of the dilemma: if, for some reason, the unborn are denied Paradise, then we must ask why anybody is worshiping this monstrous Creator, who denies paradise to the vast majority of us for whimsical reasons and no fault of our own.
