Hm. Back in the 1970s I recall that Wycliffe Bible Translators was the evangelical outfit whose goal was to make sure that every indigneous language on earth had a translation of at least the gospels, if not the new testament, if not the entire Bible. They in fact believed this would usher in the second coming.
The ABS on the other hand with its paraphrased / vernacular translation, The Good News Bible and the lesser-known Contemporary English Version was never taken seriously by us, and was considered "too liberal". In addition, those translations never seemed to get much traction with believers.
So I'm in a way not surprised there was an evangelical takeover of this organization (or they capitulated to evangelical influences, or whatever it was exactly that happened).
Why atheists has to show interest in whatever happens in the american bible society?
Bible societies often purposely mistranslate the bible for political or cultural purposes. The always translate in concordance with the modern dogma of the time. When the modern dogma becomes more fundamentalist, extremist, or tries to sway the thoughts of Christians it becomes a concern for everyone.
@DavidLaDeau politicians mistranslate, muslins mistranslate, christians mistranslate, criminals mistranslate, scientists mistranslate, atheists mistranslate, agnostics mistranslate, academia mistranslate, historians mistranslate..... I don't believe in the book, I am not insterested in your mistranslations regardless who say, what is said. The document of reference was discarded last century. Christians or militant atheist at war with christians are not of my concern.
excuse me, what is an American Bible ? St James is the only Authorised version, unless your a Catholic, then you put people to death until they agree
Authorised by whom? Just what does authorised mean? Discover the answers to these questions and you will find the reasons there is much to be concerned about. If you discover that this has anything to do with anything but people's decisions I would be thrilled to know.
@DavidLaDeau King James Dooh,
The King James Version (KJV), also known as the King James Bible (KJB) or simply the Authorized Version (AV), is an English translation of the Christian Bible for the Church of England, begun in 1604 and completed in 1611.[a] The books of the King James Version include the 39 books of the Old Testament, an intertestamental section containing 14 books of the Apocrypha, and the 27 books of the New Testament.
