is this some kind of what's also called a water dragon? ...at least in australia they are.

@Delaroux, i live in their natural environment at the most easterly point of mainland australia, so i enjoy their re-appearance every spring - soon now. ... & sometimes i paint them ?
@Delaroux, not common enough for my taste, & people still run them over with their car. the dragons like to sit around waterholes, puddles & creeks. if they choose a spot where the road crosses a waterway there'll be trees & dappled shade, which is ideal for them, but can prove fatal. i love their ancient look & dignified stance.
