Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.I am not stuck with the doctor some insurance or medical board chooses for me. I get to choose my own doctor in ontario, and it is up to the doctor if they will take me on as a client. Not all doctors take on new clients so you are limited in that regard.

I don't know much about the other provinces, but in Quebec, we get what we get.

I agree with what has been said,you can pick your docter but may have to get on his waiting list as they are restricted to the number of clients they can have and family doctors do the referral to a specialist but even then you can pick the specialist you want to see.

You just need to find one who is taking new patients, or a referral from another dr.

Is that for just a dr visit, or for a specialist? What Province do you live in?
@TheGreatShadow A family dr. Specialists only take patients referred by the family dr. I live in BC.
@TheGreatShadow She lives in BC. I agree with her answer.Even where I live and doctors love to live there are people without doctors, partly because many doctors here work part time.
Choice kind of depends on how many doctors there are in your area but they can't force you to take any particular doctor
