Today I got home from work. Zoe greeted me. Cloris was nowhere to be found. I called her many times. I tore apart my home looking for her. I walked toward the phone, intending to call the desk attendant on first floor of my condo complex to ask if a cat had been found wandering around .... just before I touched the phone, Cloris came up behind me. I don't know where she hid. She must have shrunk herself into 1/3 of her size and found some teeny little place to hide. She scared the crap outta me. Now I have to put my home back together ... sigh .....
Cats are magic.
Reminds me of visiting a friend who lived in Grand Forks (before the flood and fire). He said he had two very shy indoor cats but during my two day stay, I encountered not a hint of cat. . . . I'm sure my friend was not hiding his cats but there were nowhere to be found.
I scolded Cloris and she sat there smirking and purring. This happened to me years back - I was taking care of two cats for a friend. The two hid. I searched everywhere. I called the caretaker to ask if the maintenance crew had been in my apt. She said no. I sat down, my head in my hands. Then I looked up and lo and behold, there they were. I could swear that cats can shrink into a tiny ball and hide someplace the humans believe they can't fit.
When my parents went out of town one day, they couldn't find one of their cats. I went over to look and I searched everywhere. I looked in every room and the basement at least three times. I decided I'd leave and come back. When I returned, I walked in the door and there she was sitting on the chair. I have no idea where she was and I was calling and calling her. I don't know where she was, but at least she was safe.

Posted by LaurenIt's my first grand's fifth Gotcha Day and this is her in the arms of my daughter as they drove home.
Posted by LaurenIt would be warmer for us both if he'd get on my lap, but it has to be his idea - though he still likes to stay close.
