SD Gov. Demands Politicians Actions ‘Line Up’ with the Word of God
During an appearance on Christian Nationalist David Brody’s “Real America’s Voice Network,” South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem demanded that the actions of politicians need to “line up with the word of God.” She also bragged about the many ways in which she has injected things like “God and prayer” into her state’s public schools, while at the same time forbidding COVID mask mandates, adding that “we in South Dakota have decided to take action to really stand for biblical principles.”
So, let me get this straight, Gov. Noem won't let school children wear masks to protect themselves from COVID, because that’s government intrusion, but she plans to enact legislation forcing kids to pray in public? Now, while I don’t agree with her, I get where she’s coming from. I’m sure she feels - it’s the “Reich” thing to do.
Gee, wonder if anyone mentioned to her that forcing everyone to be governed by “Biblical principles,” would also mean enforcing things like Biblical prohibitions against eating pork and wearing clothing made of mixed fibers? Oh well, sounds like this could pretty much mean the end of bacon cheeseburgers and cotton/polyester apparel in South Dakota. Damn shame too! Just when the sale of leisure suits was really starting to take off again there.
Well, one thing she ought to be happy about, is that with Republican opposition to any meaningful legislation on climate change, it’s a pretty sure bet our climate will definitely be going “Biblical” real soon. Now, I’m not the slightest bit religious, but if I were a resident of South Dakota and in possession of an IQ that was in the triple digits, I believe I’d be “praying” real hard to find the fastest way possible - to get the hell out of South Dakota.
Just to clarify I believe you mispoke when you stated ... “Noem won't let kids wear masks”. That’s not what banning mask mandates does. They ban mandatory masking rules. They do not prevent anyone from wearing a mask. I support mask mandates for CoVid -19. They are needed. Mask mandates work. I work in schools. I have seen firsthand how well mask mandates work. They increase the masking.
"the First Amendment to the United States Constitution reads: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."
"Jefferson wrote, Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State. Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties."
Jefferson reflects other thinkers, including Roger Williams, a Baptist Dissenter and founder of Providence, Rhode Island. In 1802, he wrote:
When they [the Church] have opened a gap in the hedge or wall of separation between the garden of the church and the wilderness of the world, God hath ever broke down the wall itself, removed the Candlestick, etc., and made His Garden a wilderness as it is this day. And that therefore if He will ever please to restore His garden and paradise again, it must of necessity be walled in peculiarly unto Himself from the world, and all that be saved out of the world are to be transplanted out of the wilderness of the World."
She's a total tool. If she didn't look appealing on the outside, she'd not be the governor. (The same with Sarah Palin, years ago.) She only beat her Democratic challenger by 2.4% (less than 11,000 votes.)
There's already a HUGE campaign, grassroots and corporate Repubs AND Dems, to see her to the door.
I found this pretty entertaining (and it's just one of many.)
