I was 206 and now at 191. The first drop was just from retirement and having a better live style and now I am loosing again by limiting my beer consumption to one day a week. That's a tough decision for homebrewer.

That's excellent; one needs to care for themselves as well as you do.

I'm at 250. I started going to the gym last week. I'd like to get to around 200. I was 135 when I graduated high school and 185 when i got out of the army.

Good luck on your plan to exercise to lose weight.

Between an illness and lifestyle changes I lost 100 lbs., but then gained about 50 back. But I'm still happy with the 50 I lost.

bleurowz Level 8 Nov 12, 2018

That's a positive attitude, Amy. What lifestyle changes did you make?

@EdEarl I had stopped using food as an emotional crutch. Still have to be on top of that sometimes.

@bleurowz Yes, that's tough sometimes. We get down about something and go for the treats.

@EdEarl Yeah, that's how I'd put some of the weight back on. I'm trying to get back to how I was before I'd gotten sick, that's when the first 50 lbs. came off, just from not going to food when I got stressed. When I was sick, the second 50 came off mainly because I'd lost my appetite -- chemo will do that, everything I ate just tasted gross. Then when my appetite came back, I started going to food again as a way to deal with stress. And it was more about quantity than certain types of food -- larger portions, extra helpings. Like feeding a hunger beyond the physical.

@bleurowz When I ate food like Mom cooked plus fast food, frozen dinners, canned chili, etc. I was more hungry that I should have been. Since I started eating a rainbow of vegetables, I've noticed my hunger is less than before. Now, I can eat 1200 calories a day and be satisfied. So, I've lost weight without dieting and uncomfortably hungry.

So far about 36 pounds. Still losing, though. 🙂

Awesome, hang in there.

I am deluding myself that I am still working on that one.

If you mean you think you need to lose weight, but haven't committed to it, then perhaps it is the food you eat that is failing you. [agnostic.com]

@EdEarl Hi, unfortunately it is not the food I am eating so much but the amount of food I am consuming.

@Jolanta My doctor put me on a vegan diet and said, "Eat all you want you will lose weight." I do and I am. I just don't get hungry as I did before.

I don't have a weight problem, I have other issues. The most obvious is male pattern baldness.

Sgt_Spanky Level 8 Nov 12, 2018

That's caused by your testosterone; you are virile.

That is not necessary a problem, hair that migrating from the top of your head to the sides.

1

I gained a lot during some particularly difficult life experiences. Food was a comforting thing. However, after moving past those problems I have also been able to gain control of my diet and time to exercise and removing and keeping off weight has not been a problem. Believe in yourself. It's worth doing.

HeraTera Level 7 Nov 11, 2018

That's good advice, but sometimes difficult. Grats.

It's all about cutting out sugar, particularly from sources you don't think have in it.

dokala Level 7 Nov 11, 2018

Depends on the person. I lost a lot more weight cutting out potatoes and weekly chips and salsa.

Fat is highest in calories per weight. Sugar is next. Carbs lowest, but fiber carbs have no calories or very few. Thus, white flower carbs are all digestible; whereas, some whole wheat carbs aren't.

@sewchick57
Considering the amount of sugar in just about all our food sources, this over representation eclipses fat and fiber. We require fat and fiber, not white sugar, added sugar, or sweeteners.

I have never been on a diet. Was 110 lbs at age 18. Now I weigh 115 lbs. at 65.

At 5' 5" tall, this is in the normal range. When I drop below 112, I'm considered underweight on the BMI scale.

That's hard to beat.
I've lost about what you currently weigh, and must lose more than that again. 😟

I quit smoking and gained 20 pounds. That made me diabetic. Then the doctor put me on a med that dropped my blood glucose but it made me gain another 40 pounds or so over the next year. When I went back after taking it for a year I told the doc I wasn't taking that drug anymore. I lost part of that weight after I quit taking that drug but not all of it. It took until I kicked my husband out before I really started losing weight. I've lost just over 40 pounds since I kicked him out 5 years ago. I'm about to not be diabetic anymore. I went from being on insulin plus metformin to being on half of what I used to take in metformin and no insulin.

sewchick57 Level 7 Nov 11, 2018

Studies of both diabetics and others taking metformin show they live longer than people who do not take it.

5'7" pretty much 135 lbs my adult life except when preggerish.

Very good.

I weigh about the same as I did in high school. I never gained too much weight.

sfvpool Level 7 Nov 11, 2018

Excellent

Currently at 90 lbs. My goal is 145 lbs.

boatdude87 Level 7 Nov 11, 2018

Grats, keep up the good work.

2

my response is not as if the question means "ever." i am responding for now. i have recently been ill and lost three pounds. it's not much and i didn't do anything purposefully to lose it; i was sick is all. but it's stayed off even through my recovery (which is not complete). i was sick for five weeks!

Posted by JurneeI have to say, as an overweight karate instructor, this is the one patch that I was ok with never getting.

Posted by DotLewis7 March 2020 - Diet Diary - Been quiet around here lately. I've not been on vacation, just keeping a low profile and trying to stay on top of things. Are those things incompatible?
