Documentaries you should see

This is a place where I'd love to hear about the documentaries that moved you emotionally or made you want to look into or study something. Real life is more fascinating than fiction. What should I see?

If you love sushi, or if you love culinary crafts and the pursuit of perfection, you'll love Jiro Dreams of Sushi. Anthony Bourdain loves the guy.

Hi there, it's me. I watched Deadly Deception , the deadly contemination of our environment caused by General Electric and the manufacture of Nuclear Power. Not a fun movie to watch.Almost as much fun as the report on Chernoble.

One of the musicians I admire greatly: John Paul Jones. There are some endorsements of strings, but still intresting if you play.

This one is a bit old now for a technology piece but was an eye opener for me on the idea of human/technology evolution and the concept of the singularity. Human v2.0 (2006)

For a feel good documentary I suggest one called "Craiglist Joe." It's the story of a guy who, for a period of time, tries to live entirely off the goodness of others using Craigslist – Kind of testing modern America's commitment to community and ...

IamEvidence is a documentary about the obscene amount of rape kits that are just put on shelves to rot without being processed. It is hosted by the main actress of Law and Order SUV. We can make a difference. endthebacklog.org

"The Act of Killing" was disturbing and morally insightful, about individuals who participated in the Indonesian mass killings of 1965–66. It reminds me that we all may be capable of great immorality.

Man on Wire was one of my favorites. It's the story of Philippe Petit's 1974 high-wire walk between the Twin Towers of New York's World Trade Center. Inspiring, knee-tingling and funny, all at the same time.

I love food documentaries. I really liked Cooked with Michael Pollan which is available on Netflix. Ugly Delicious with David Chan was also very good.

"Chasing Coral" is about the bleaching and dying of the coral reefs around the world. Terribly sad, but interesting and important. Also, "Chasing Ice" shows the increasing rate of glaciers receding in most of the world.

I highly recommend A Place Called Chiapas It isn't so much atheist per se. But it is a very interesting documentary (about the Zapatistas in Mexico).

Anyone seen 'Wild WIld Country' on Netflix? It's about how the Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh cult created a new town in rural Oregon during the 1980s and how the locals flipped out. I thought it was excellent since it brings up a lot of conflicting ideas ...
