Any hikers in this group? My wife and I live in the middle of the Ocala National forest and love to spend the day hiking. If anyone wants to go hiking with someone who knows the trails let me know. Maybe we can get a nice non-believer group together and get some walking done

Awesome! We take care of a 16 mile section of the florida trail that runs through the Ocala National forest. Let us know when you are coming up and we can get to hiking!
@joeandbarb my friend owns a cottage there in SS, so I told her about your gracious offer. Her and her sistet own places right on Lake Kerr. I will certainly look you up when I go visit with my lady friend.

You are quite a distance away thats for sure. Maybe we could set up a camp out in the springtime, meet up at a state forest, park or campground and spend a couple of days hiking and camping. I always end up eating healthier and losing weight when My wife and I camp and hike. I wonder how many would be interested in doing this?
I'm always up for exploring new trails !

We will be doing a lot of hiking after Dec. too many holidays and birthdays to get too social but Jan calendar is open for hiking. Being retired I usually hike during the week but weekends are not too bad if you still have to work for a living
@joeandbarb let me (and maybe others) know after the new year. I go back to work on the 6th, a hike on the 4th or the 5th would be good.
How many miles are you comfortable with hiking? 5, 10, 12,??? If everyone interested lets me know their capabilities I can plan a better hike. 314A to the 88 store is about 12 miles but covers some nice ground. Rice creek is amazing but you will get your feet wet no matter how hard you try not to. The juniper wilderness is a long beautiful hike but very little overhead canopy to protect from the sun. So many options available in the Ocala National forest its hard to choose
@joeandbarb Mileage for me, can depends on temperature. And personally, I'm always looking for wildlife - so not as concerned with racking up miles. 5-10 works.
Jan 3rd I can make a hike. How about we hike rice creek?
I live in Daytona and was thinking about heading out to Juniper Springs for a hike on Friday. What trail do you like to hike the best?

Right now the juniper wilderness to Hopkins prairie is your best bet due to it being hunting season until sometime in Jan. The woods are full of hunters at the moment but they are not allowed in the wilderness area. also the Florida trail association just cleared the northern part of that trailI forgot it was hunting season, Is there a better trail?

@joeandbarb I have not hiked Rice Creek I’ll have to check it out. I think since it is hunting season I will skip my planned hike.
