I have the neatest granddaughter. She was clearing a spot for a garden and went in the house for a break. There's been a remodelings going on for quite some time so the back yard is overgrown and littered with construction materials making the clearing that much harder. When she came out a snapping turtle was building a nest in the cleared spot she had finally made. Now she's building a fence around it to protect the eggs. She may only have a fall garden from the looks of it. The long view picture shows a groundhog watching the turtle.

I have a nephew who is in his 30s who does the same for the turtles where he works. When he sees them burying eggs the area is cordoned off.
I love that boy. ❤
Folks who love and protect nature around them are always special.

Be sure to warn her about snapping turtle's choice for toes. A friend of mine lost a big toe through his Army boots walking through muddly water in Oklahoma.

That is excellent! An observer of nature and activist in the making!

I'm afraid my daughter cleared a garden spot for me. At her house! That's 45 minutes each way. It will be a pathetic garden ;(

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
