Do tomatoes grow well indoors? I was at the garden center at Walmart the other day considering getting a big houseplant and I saw some of the big tomato plants and thought that might look interesting, but thinking it might not do well.

Hard to imagine, I really don't think they would thrive.

Only thru grow lights and hydroponics.
There's no substitute for good old sun and soil.

They need lots of light, research a good cultivar. You would definitely want an indeterminate variety that fruits and flowers over a long interval and doesn't get too big as others have pointed out. Their ancestors are tropical perennials, so hopefully you can find one that lives for years.

I don't think so. Tomatoes need a large amount of sun as you know. I can't imagine an indoor spot that would give them enough sun. But it's worth a try. I'm all for trying anything new. Some of my best plants were experiments.
I didn't know until a couple years ago that pruning back vegetable vines can actually be good for them.

Hot houses produce some great tomatoes.

Tomatoes do well indoors but they can grow very big, unless it is a short bushy variety. Ours grew so tall we had to support them from a hook in the ceiling/

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
