A New Mystery . For the last two mornings have seen abrid fly out of the wheelbarrow where I am grwing some kohlraby and cabbage. This morning I checked. The bird is snipping the leaves off the kohlrabi plant. Why? I am going to buy some kid's windmills and stick them around the plants, to shoo the brd away and to brighten up the garden.
So far, the kohlrabu is still growing, even with some leaves removed.kI still have not seen any insects anywhere n the wheelbarrow . The Savoy cabbage is doing really well,
The childrens' windmills I installed in two strawbed and the wheelbarrow look very ceerfull when they are spinning in the wind. Not sure that they have any effect an birds and such.
Cabbage moth caterpillars eat both plants, let the bird be.
As soon as i see any evidence I will remove the windmills. Not so far. i check every day.
@Spinliesel I use co-planted marigolds to control the problem. I can't think of a bird that would harm these plants, but then again I don't live where you do or know your birds. In my garden I regard the birds as pest control devises.
@HeathenFarmer So do I, I welcome all birds, and I have a lot of varieties. Just got suspicious when I saw this one come out of the wheelbarrow two days in a row,.
Share that kohlrabi or the insects it is eating off of that cruciferous.
There are no insects in sight. Is was the first thing I thought of.
Try placing a plastic owl nearby, as a scarecrow
Oh, what a great idea. I am fascinated by those very life like birds. They are expensive, though. I can buy a whole fleet of windmills with that.
