If anyone wants to do plant trade let me know. Especially in the Spring time. I have Okinawa spinach like crazy right now. They don't like the cold.

North Florida, Palatka.

Definitely chilly up there compared to Tampa. Do you get regular annual freezes?

@yppahagn I'm from Fort Lauderdale and only lived here 2 years but last winter was bad and I lost a lot of plants till I built a makeshift greenhouse, tent not like it. ?

I'm in Nebraska, we had snow today. It was 30° when I woke up and 28° by the time I was dressed. Gardening is done until April or May.

Not in Fla. It was in the 90's into October this year. Winter is the season we can get out & enjoy the weather and garden without sunburn & heatstroke.

@yppahagn How sad. If you like you can come to the UK for winter, we can entertain you in the garden with a runny nose, cold frozen fingers, and S.A. D. due to the few hours of dim dank murky daylight. That should make a nice change from heatstroke.

@Fernapple Oh! How tempting! 🙂

@OwlInASack 90F=32C we typically have 4-5 months when hi temps hover betw 28-34C. Lows rarely drop below 24C. Winter temps are such a relief!

@OwlInASack F to C.: subtract 32 divide by 9 multiply by five. C to F: Divide by five, multiply by 9 and add 32. I think.

@OwlInASack, @yppahagn Your welcome.

Yes I do I’m in central Florida

Donto101 Level 7 Nov 17, 2018

What part of Central Fla? I'm in Tampa.

@yppahagn I’m north of Tampa in Sumter county right off of 75

@Donto101 Cool, been thru Sumter a lot up & down 75. It's a bit cooler than Tampa. Enough to change plant selection. Nice to meet you.

@yppahagn yeah there is a lot more tropicals you can grow there

LMAO. Don't you read the group information and previous posts?

FrayedBear Level 9 Nov 17, 2018

Please explain @FrayedBear The name of this group is 'gardeners.'

@yppahagn Sure is and it is hosted by a great guy, ably assisted by his wife, both living in Florida. ?

@yppahagn @Donto stop being shy and come and introduce yourself.

@FrayedBear I just came to chat, not do research.

FYI-ran a landscape maint biz, 12 yrs, design, install, maintain, and pest control. Extension agent, 15 yrs, (consultant/teacher to professionals). Retired 2013, still teaching.

@yppahagn I will point out that you are only in this group thanks to its host.
Perhaps things are different in America but practice around the world for a harmonious well functioning group is for new members to learn the group rules and at least inquire and learn about the top players.
Thank you for your bio, I would have anticipated that someone with such credentials would know how to garner information and attract new friends.
You may not get on with Don but in the time that I have known him through here I have grown to appreciate what he and Amy are trying to accomplish.

I was a long time butterfly gardener in South Florida. I miss it, especially in Winter

Leafhead Level 8 Nov 17, 2018

I bet you do up in snow country! Do you still do butterflies in the summer?

@yppahagn
You bet! I do orchids and small reptiles indoors to keep going thru Winter. I usually see my first butterfly in April, usually an American Lady, then flocks of Red Admirals as they migrate northward.
The Painted Ladies are after Antennaria and Anaphalis. Commonly called Pussytoes and Everlasting.
I find my first Monarch and/or Swallowtail caterpillars towards mid May
The height of the season here is July into August
