My pond refroze overnight. Yesterday's thaw made a good piece of bluestone heave.
Good to see the pump is still working and Mr. Bluejay enjoying himself.

Do bubblers work in the cold?

How deep is your pond?

I wonder if birds scoop up snow or tiny bits of ice to melt in their beaks for drinking?

If it's not too cold, the circulating water helps. But at least in CNY, it was windy and minus 2 degrees F. Maybe some pubble wrap over the pond would help insulate the water from the cold. Poor fish. 😟

A little open water if you can thaw or break a bit, is really useful to the birds.

@AmiSue Well done. I must admit that I am lucky where I live, the stream which runs through the garden is spring fed, and it comes out of the ground at a constant 50f so that there is always open water for them, even when all the other ponds and streams freeze.

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
