A few hours of cold & wet spring clean-up, weeding and spreading wood chips all comes into perspective when I find 4 new baby Ostrich Ferns unfurling for this year!

Interesting, what kind of ferns are those. I just read a report that there is an unknown disease that is wiping out Sword Ferns in the Seattle area. The pictures look horrible like someone took a flame thrower over an area of ferns. Amazingly it was mentioned that some species can live from hundreds to thousands of years.

Have you ever eaten them, or are they for decoration ?

I just enjoy seeing them on my naturalized property - one of about a dozen fern species!

@tinkercreek Great, ferns are my favourite plants too.

Doesn't putting down wood chips encourage termites ?

Cast1es Level 9 Apr 7, 2019

It depends on the wood species

I think that may also be a regional concern, very common mulch here. Then again, I'll let you know :-/ !

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
