So, a question for both our gardeners group and our food-glorious-food group:
GARLIC!
WE use the garlic available at Krogers (supermarket) for our culinary adventures. I received a catalogue from a major seed/plant company I do business with regaling us with garlic start packages containing different garlic varietals. Kind of pricey. Does anyone in the food group use different garlic types for specific cooking? How hard are these to grow and do they propagate in your garden after the first year and harvest?
My father used to grow garlic, and did not find it hard. The great thing about it is that if you have enough of your own grown, and therefore cheap, you can use it as a spay to keep insects and other pests of the other vegetables. It save the cost of shop bought sprays, and of course is good if you are organic.
I use regular supermarket garlic... Nothing special... I've heard of elephant garlic but never seen it.. Shallots are good too but that's a combination of a garlic and onion flavor...
