#Horticulture #plants #Vegetables #garden #fruit #Landscaping #agriculture Are you collecting # coffee grounds from your coffee maker? I started collecting the coffee grounds again. It takes a while to collect enough, but there is no better soil conditioner , especially for acid-loving plants like azaleas, rhododendron, radishes, peppers, parsley and sweet pitatoes. I have a little white bucket on the kitchen porch, and every morning, the coffee filter from the past day gets emptied in there. When it is time to plant veggies, I add the dried grounds by the spoon fulls. You can put more grounds around azaleas, heathers, rhododendrons and hydrengeas that you would like to bloom in blue.

The ph of coffee grounds varies from 4.6 yo 8.4. Most coffee grounds test out at 6.7, which is barely acidic. More information at Robert Pavlis, author of "Garden Myths", website: [gardenmyths.com]

Dr. Linda Chalker-Scott, an Agricultural Extension professor, has written a helpful pdf that lists information as to what coffee grounds do and don't do. [s3.wp.wsu.edu]

Thanks for the information. I rely on empirical data, namely my results with the plants I emntioned. Besides the acidity improvements, coffee grounds also imrove the soil and do not wind up in the garbage can.

I collect mine, last year I had a friend who worked in a coffee shop and she would keep them for me. I have approached the many cafes around me, but each one already has someone on staff who uses them.

Ask your local coffee shop. They may provide you with coffee grounds.

@Spinliesel lol I live out in the middle of no where. There are no local coffee shops near me. I may ask some of the convenience stores though. Thanks for the idea.

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
