There was a joke that there was a new pensioner retirement plan it consisted of a gun and two bullets. They take the gun and shot a politician (the two bullets are in case the first missed). Then they would be arrested and sent to jail where they would get three meals a day, all of their laundry done for them, 24/7 monitoring and bed checks, free dental and healthcare. Better than a retirement home and they get rid of a politician so wins all round.

Many long time convicts deliberately commit crime to be readmitted. There's also an SF story of "victimless" crimes being committed to get sent to the moon prison a sapiophile's heaven.

@scurry Neither this [m.imdb.com] or a 1990 film of same name are based on the SF story that I would have read about 35 years sgo in one of the SF magazines.
