Indeed...i honestly think it's a matter of a very strong "traditional" environment....
if the parents are "believers" either in a God...or in "spoiling" children ....
then the child will grow up with that strong tradition....
and pass it on to their children.
I've meet too many very intelligent, degreed individuals who are indeed religious...or suffering obesity from a childhood tradition of "spoiling" the child...or both...
....and their children grow up...regardless of IQ....with that same "addiction"...to either faith....or food....often both.
More like it takes the capacity and curiosityโ to reason for yourself and actually look for the answers instead of listening to some jackass standing in front of you saying how you should give him money for not providing you with any....
There are varying degrees of smart and varying degrees of stupid. Also types of smart: book smart, savants, street smart, any of which can be very gullible. People are drawn to religion because it fills a need in their lives.
Nicely said.
I try NOT to use the words intelligent, intelligence or even smart in my vocabulary. I find it a bit annoying, smug, pretentious when people say they're intelligent or smart. Who gets to decide who's intelligent and who's not? I wonder if someone's genius is someone else's idiot and the other way around.
I guess I would have to agree. I have known intelligent people who believe. They don't go to church or talk about it, but they do have a belief of something beyond this Earthly existence. This site has shown me one doesn't have to be intelligent to be a nonbeliever. I am sure there are folks here who feel the same about me.
I agree, this site has also shown me that you don't have to be intelligent to be a nonbeliever. Though certainly some are intelligent, like anything else I suppose.
@Sticks48zo I'm not ready to leave at all, I have so many things that I want to do. I"m not going easy into that good night !
