It reminds me of a French tradition of putting painted plywood cut outs of animals next to the house or barn. The idea was to confuse the causal bypasser into thinking they had animals.
Today in America one sees the plywood cut out of the leaning cowboy in rural areas. We'un's got a farm hand, we do.
