My family members are the perfect guinea pigs for my gastronomical experiments, and I tell them in advance that they are the first ones to try my new recipes. Look at it this way, there’s always other alternatives on the table.

Agreed! I used to host Thanksgiving for my ex’s family. I made “for the first time” recipes nearly every year. If you are really a cook, you can tell whether it will be successful and taste good before you cook it.
