Once as a young teen i read a SF short story about a guy who made super-strong material from Highly perforated stuff and used this and toilet tissue perforations as the explanation as to why it was so strong.....don;t remember another thing about it, title, author, nuttin', but it was a self-evident demonstrable reason!
