The article starts by correctly pointing out that one needs a Federal License, which is expensive and hard to get, to possess a fully automatic weapon. The thugs included in the article undoubtably ignored the law and got the guns illegally. No surprise, criminals are criminals because they commit crimes.
Additionally, "ARs" are not Automatic weapons.

@SeaGreenEyez No, fact was my point. There is a big difference between semi-automatic and full automatic. Your initial comment was about "ARs" and the "need to keep them legal". Whether ARs were legal or not would not affect the article you reference because the article was about automatic, not semi-autpmatic weapons. You conflated the two.
"Thugs" is an outdated racist term for people looking for reasons to be offended. ALL races have thugs. Hyper-sensitive groups don't get to decide what is racist.
That can’t be real. Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation and automatic weapons are stupid illegal on a federal level.
